Alang Alang Thatch Roofing in Brisbane
Natural Alang Alang gives a Balinese hut its distinctive layered roof and textured underside. We install and replace thatch on Bali huts, helping you choose a roof that suits the structure and the way you use your outdoor space.
What is Alang Alang thatch?
Alang Alang is a natural grass used in traditional Balinese roofing. The grass is prepared into thatching strips and laid in overlapping layers. Its deep texture provides shade and insulation from the sun, creating a sheltered garden or poolside retreat.
Roof installation and finishing
A thatched roof depends on more than its visible surface. The frame, roof shape, overlapping layers and finishing at the hips and crown all matter. We use export-quality Alang Alang and discuss the roof structure and installation details for each project.
Natural thatch or synthetic roofing?
Natural thatch offers the texture and atmosphere of a traditional Bali hut. Synthetic Smart Thatch provides a different finish and avoids shedding natural grass debris. Compare appearance, roof suitability and future care with us before choosing.
Caring for a natural roof
Keep an eye on changes in the roof from ground level, particularly after severe weather. Gaps, displaced material or new leaks are reasons to ask for advice. Re-thatching can renew the covering where the underlying structure remains suitable; repairs may be needed first.

How long does an Alang Alang thatched roof last?
Its condition depends on exposure, installation, surrounding vegetation and care. We can discuss expected performance for your site and assess an existing roof. A lifespan estimate is not a warranty.
Can an old Bali hut roof be re-thatched?
Often, yes. The frame, posts and roof need to be assessed to decide whether replacing the covering is sufficient or structural repairs should be included.
